This magnificent house built in 1870 was once described as ‘the most comfortable house in England’ and is a retreat of Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh. The main ground floor rooms which are regularly used by the Royal Family are open to the public. Visitors will see many beautiful items of furniture and exquisite décor as they were in the Edwardian times in this royal residence.
Sandringham is surrounded by 60 acres of glorious gardens with lawns, woodland, two lakes and a vast rock garden, making it a perfect place to walk around in autumn, spring or summer. Visitors could also take a stroll to the museum which holds Royal motor vehicles, the fabulous Merryweather Fire Engine which was used for the estate’s own Fire Brigade and several children’s cars. If visitors would like to know more about the estate, the visitor’s centre, set in the woodland, is open all year round. There is free car park space at the centre as well.
