This dramatic 17th century fortress originally built to defend the coastline from the Dutch is still used as an operational military base today.
Take a 90-minute outdoor walking tour led by a Blue Badge guide and see the outstanding examples of baroque architecture and learn about the history of the fortress. When you walk to the rampart, you will see some fantastic views overlooking Plymouth Sound. You are allowed to take photos at the rampart but not anywhere else in the Citadel. After the tour, it is well worth walking around the exterior of this impressive fortress just to get another perspective.
Tours are on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 2.30pm, but tours may be suspended or cancelled without prior notice, and please do not bring large bags or rucksacks when you visit.
Opening Times: By guided tour only. For more information please visit their website.
