Portland Basin Museum
Discover what it was like working down the mines or on a farm, and learn all about the local crafts and industries in the area.
You can also walk along a ‘representation’ of a 1920’s street, which has a terraced house, a school room, a fish and chip shop, a grocer’s shop and a pub.
You could also walk to the museum’s waterfront and take a boat trip along the canal. Afterwards children under 5 could entertain themselves at the ‘Nuts and Bolts’ educational play area, while parents enjoy the view of the canal again.
The museum is housed within the restored 19th century Ashton Canal Warehouse.
Costs: Entrance is free.
