Oare Gunpowder Works Country Park
Follow well-marked trails and discover beautiful woodlands. See the remains of a gunpowder works that once created a thriving industry in the area. Learn all about this bygone trade as you walk through grassy glades past the millpond. You can also take a trail which leads through an open grassland meadow.
Throughout the site there are many interpretation panels which include old photographs of buildings and the history of their involvement in the manufacturing of gunpowder. You will learn some interesting facts about wildlife in the area as well.
The visitor’s centre, which is open to the public from April to November, has many displays explaining how gunpowder was made at Oare.
Outside the centre there is a picnic area where you can relax and take in the picturesque views of the countryside.
