Inigo Jones Slateworks
Inigo Jones Slate Works was founded in 1861 primarily to prefabricate school writing slates. Today the company uses the same raw material namely 500 million year old Welsh slate to produce architectural, memorial, craft and landscape products.
The company continues to prefabricate all types of bespoke products for businesses as well as individuals and specialises in nameplates and plaques.
The company is now also open to the public for self guided tours which includes a film on how slate is mined and quarried before it arrives at Inigo Jones, an audio taped commentary directs you around the workshops describing the various machines, and there are also geological historical calligraphy and letter cutting exhibitions. As part of the tour one gets a piece of slate so you get a chance to engrave on that you get to keep as a souvenir of your visit to the works.
We are open all year including weekends and there is plenty of free onsite parking craft showroom and café
Opening Times: Daily including weekends: 9am to 5pm
