Charles Dickens Birthplace Museum
Take a journey into the past and visit 1 Mile End Terrace where the famous novelist Charles Dickens was born on 7th February 1812. Step into the world of the 19th century Dickens family and enjoy looking at the elegantly furnished parlour, the dining room and bedroom all with genuine Regency furniture. See household items and some of Dickens’ personal items such as his snuff box and the very couch on which he died.
As Dickens once wrote: “Have a heart that never hardens, and a temper that never tires, and a touch that never hurts.” A visit here won’t harden you, tire you or hurt you, it will only inspire you. If you are a Dickens fan then this birthplace museum is a must to visit.
After a visiting this historic house, you could go on a Charles Dickens Guided Walk and discover the area where the Dickens family lived and worked.
Facilities: Due to the number of narrow steps within the building it is not accessible to people with walking difficulties and wheelchair users.
Opening Times: Friday – Sunday from Friday 3rd April – Sunday 27th September, 10am – 5.30pm. Last entry to Charles Dickens’ Birthplace Museum is 30 minutes before closing time.
