This impressive 18th century mansion, surrounded by glorious parkland, was rescued by Lord and Lady Lliffe in the mid-nineteen fifties. They patiently and lovingly restored the interior with 18th century fittings and fixtures and filled the building with elegant furniture, fabrics and fine paintings, all of which can be enjoyed today.
You can also enjoy a 1950’s kitchen where you will be enticed by wonderful baking smells and afterwards you could visit the laundry room which will give you get an insight of how chores were transformed in the fifties. But if you are more of an outdoor type, there is an opportunity to do a self-guided tour around the gardens and if that is not enough, you could take one of four different marked walks to discover the mansion’s wonderful parkland.
There is also a picnic spot there which is a perfect place to enjoy a bite to eat while you are out exploring. Basildon Park makes a perfect day out for all the family, but it would be best to check the opening times before you go there.
