Ashby de la Zouch Castle
Walk around the remains of this spectacular building and get an amusing account of the castle’s dramatic and colourful history as you listen to a free audio guide.
Discover how the property began as a manor house and how it reached castle status in the 15th century. Hear how Lord Hastings, Edward IV’s Chamberlain, added the chapel and the impressive keep-like Hastings Tower. V
You can also climb the half-ruined tower today despite it suffering massive damage during the Civil War. The climb is worth it as there are some spectacular views at the top.
After climbing the 24 metre tower, head down to the kitchen and discover and explore the underground passage from the kitchen to the tower. This is a great experience and not to be missed.
Bring your own picnics as there is plenty of grass to sit on and you can use the circular seats positioned under a tree, just in case it gets too hot.
A visit to Ashby de la Zouch Castle makes a great family day in Leicestershire.
